CayFilm is so happy to see David Goudge return this year with his new film “The Wizard of Beale Street” After having a great viewing last year with the “Spy Sisters” we are glad to have him back for a new film and a Q&A afterwards!

The Wizard of Beale Street

A five year old street performer evolves into the informal mayor of his hood. Over the years his amazing talent and unexpected level of success brought him hundreds of thousands of dollars-but now he has little to show for it. The money is simply gone: given to those in the neighborhood who ask. Along the way he appeared with Tom Cruise in The Firm, set Guinness Book World records, created acts seen on America’s Got Talent, corporate events, and one of the highest rated halftime performances at National Basketball Association games. A debilitating gunshot wound at age 24 ended his performing career, but he remains driven to somehow both support his extended family, and protect kids from the clutches of the poverty and the hopelessness it compels. Constant pain, and years of self induced pressure to help others are wearing him down. Why does he do this? What does his future hold? Can he survive the grip of the hood himself? If not, what will happen to the kids on the street?

Dave Goudge is a retired Fortune 100 Marketing Executive, with an Emmy nomination for television advertising. He is an accomplished public speaker, former Naval Officer, jet pilot, and certified to instruct sailing, flying, and Scuba.
Susan Goudge is an avid photographer, focusing on street, landscape and underwater photography. She is a former alpine ski instructor, and retired high school English teacher. Currently Susan lives and hikes with her husband in Arizona

Director Statement

As co-producers and directors, making this project has captivated us since the first minute of filming. The kids and their mentors are fighting an incredible uphill battle every day of their lives. What lingers in our minds are the never-ending smiles and upbeat outlook. Impressive.
